“I Am Not A Lesbian The Pegeant Organisers Pressured Me Into Acting The Video” – Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke Finally Opens Up

Since the story of the s*x video involving former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, broke a few weeks ago, several groups and individuals have come forward with different versions of what transpired between the embattled 20-year-old beauty queen and the organisers of the pageant.
The former beauty queen was seen in a shocking x-rated video with a lesbian partner. Surprisingly, the video was released on October 11, 2016, a few days before the expiration of her tenure originally billed for October 28, 2016.
Every day across the state since the video hit the streets, different versions of what led to the scandal are churned out by the actors, leaving the people confused and unsure of what to believe.
Since the scandal broke, Miss Chidinma Okeke, who won the Miss Anambra beauty pageant, organised by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), has remained incommunicado, choosing to go into hiding over alleged threats to her life. She has also remained silent, leaving her lawyer to do most of the talking.
While the father, Sir Jeremiah Okeke, had claimed in recent reports that his daughter had been handed over to a relation for safety, some others claimed that the ex-beauty queen had relocated abroad.
But after weeks of keeping quiet, Miss Okeke has finally broken her silence. In an exclusive interview with The Nation, she debunked claims that she threatened to commit suicide, adding that there was never a time such thought came to her mind.
She also said her life might no longer be in danger, adding that her traducers were no longer threatening her life, and maintaining that those who were after her life had stopped contacting her.
She also said the faces behind her agonizing period in Anambra would be revealed soon, adding that with God, all things are possible.
Narrating her own side of the story, she said:
“Early last year, the ABS advertised for the Miss Anambra beauty pageant. I heard of it and went to make enquiry.
“My roommate was also interested, but one of the organisers told me to apply. I told them I was not interested but the man insisted that I might win the competition. He also promised to give me the form for free if I indicated interest, and he did when I agreed to contest.
“But one Jane told me that before a winner would be declared, there were certain things to be done, including the (sex) video. I consented after some persuasion from the organisers. I later went for the contest at the Marble Arch Hotels in Awka, and I was declared winner with a Kia Rio vehicle as star prize.
“When I went for my car after the contest, the organisers brought out a contract form for me to sign, but I told them I wanted to contact my lawyer to see it. I was not given the opportunity to do so.
“What they kept telling me was that if I insisted on not signing the contract or wanted to contact my lawyer, they would release the video.
“At that point, I became uncomfortable and signed the contract to avoid such embarrassment, and the car was released to me from where it was packed within the premises of ABS.
“From that moment, I became a slave to them. On October 11, 2016, they called me to come and make presentations inside the office of one the organisers. After that, the man excused some people in that room and showed me the video again.
“They told me to drop my car and removed my crown from me. I told them I would take the car as stipulated in the contract. They insisted I should pack it in the premises of (ABS).
“I told my uncle in Abuja about the situation. My uncle called them and asked them to release my car to me. Instead, they forwarded the video to him as part of the blackmail. That was what happened,” Chidinma said, crying.
She also said the scandal had weighed her down. Amidst sobs, she denied being a lesbian, saying she had never been involved in the act.
For her parents, Sir Jeremiah and his wife, Lady Nora Okeke, the incident remains a shock. According to Sir Okeke, the management and organisers of the pageant capitalised on his daughter’s “age and naivety to deny her whatever monetary gains she made while serving as Miss Anambra.”
He added:
“How can a beauty queen borrow money to pay her driver, even when she is supposed to be receiving a monthly salary?
“I cannot say all that I heard or saw. Why was she not paid her winning prize of one million naira fully? Rather, they paid her on installmental basis. And up until today, the money has not been completely paid.
“They have rubbished her and rubbed the family’s name in the mud. But we have united as a family, praying seriously for my daughter and for the people behind this wicked act to be exposed.
“My family at first agreed not to tell me about the whole thing, because I am hypertensive. But they decided otherwise when things got out of hand. I told them this issue will not kill me because I have had worse experiences while in business years back.
“My God, as always, will answer me and expose the truth in no distant time. I won’t say much because the damage has already been done.
“Chidinma is a small girl who does not know anything, hence, she fell into a trap that was too heavy for her to shoulder. But I thank God she is recovering.”
All through the interview, Chidinma’s mother, who was advised by the husband to remain silent, continued to hiss, and motioning her hands towards the heavens in supplication to God.
Two of the chiefs in Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area, where Chidinma hails from, Chief Obi Okoli (Idejimba) and Chief Julius Nwankwo (Nwabulu-Omee), told The Nation that the incident had left them in shock.
Okoli, who described Chidinma as a nice and well-trained girl from a Christian home, saw the entire thing as a set up, but argued that such issues would only happen if somebody presents oneself.
According to him, “she is a well brought up girl from a good family background and Christian home. There could be more to this than meets the eyes.”
Asked if the community was not going to say anything on the sex scandal involving their daughter, Okoli laughed and said: “There are ways of handling such issues, and I don’t think the community will be involved.”
Also speaking, Chief Julius Nwankwo, described the situation as a pity, adding that today’s children behave as they like.
However, he said that the people of Ogboji community were seeing it as blackmail, adding that none of them was happy with what happened to their daughter.
He said:
“As an Ogboji man, I am pained that such a thing happened to one of our own, and that is why we want the authorities concerned to look into the saga appropriately, with a view to arresting those involved.
“When our daughter won the award, we were happy. For anybody or group of persons to rubbish her and our community is what we will not condone.”
Nwankwo said they heard some people had been apprehended over the sex scandal, adding that the authorities should look well in making sure that wrong people were not punished.
The Managing Director of ABS, the organisers, Uche Nworah did not comment on the queen’s allegations when we contacted him. He instead referred us to the organisation’s earlier statement.
In the earlier statement, the organisers had dissociated themselves from the scandal. Part of the statement read: “The attention of the management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, organisers of the Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant, has been drawn to a video with lurid contents purportedly showing former Miss Anambra, Miss Chidinma Okeke (Miss Anambra 2015).
“The said Miss Chidinma Okeke, who is allegedly linked to the lurid content in circulation, has served out her term as Miss Anambra 2015 and handed over the crown in line with the terms and conditions of The Miss Anambra pageant.
“We condemn in clear terms any amoral behaviour/conduct as suggested by the alleged lurid content in circulation and do not condone such.
“It is on record that The Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant has been a platform to empower Anambra women and celebrate our rich culture and heritage. Winners of the pageant are bound to contracts to be of good conduct and moral behaviour and to uphold/maintain the honour in their position as queen.
“Winners of the pageant also contract to refrain from any personal relationship that could appear to hinder their ability to perform the duties of their office as queen and role model, and we do not expect any less.
“We, therefore, wish to dissociate The Miss Anambra pageant from any discussions on the said allegations.
“We feel sufficiently perturbed by the mere reference already made to the pageant and hereby state that we are in no way connected to the controversy.
“We apologise to the government and good people of Anambra State, our sponsors, supporters, friends and all those associated with the Miss Anambra project for the embarrassment the mere reference to the pageant in the controversy may have caused whilst reassuring of the good intentions of the Miss Anambra pageant franchise.”

Secrete Of MMM Nigeria’ Has Been Revealed – You Need To Read This

Saw this article on Guardian newspapers…Read, its very interesting;
With the current high rate of unemployment, job losses and pressing financial needs in the country, it is not surprising that the youth are embracing questionable get rich quick schemes and opportunities.
For instance, the number of Nigerians that now patronize the popular lottery games is on the increase. Some youths are also deeply involved in sport betting through such platforms as Nairabet, Merrybet and Bet9ja, among others.
It is against this backdrop that the MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria made a grand entrance into the Nigerian investment market in 2016. MMM stands for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox and takes its name from its founders, Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi, Vyacheslav Mavrodi, and Olga Melnikova.
The outfit was established in 1989 by these three Russian nationals, and promises its clients 30 per cent return on investment (ROI) for money put into the system for 30 days. The scheme prides itself as a mutual aid fund through which recruited members contribute money to assist others.
The founders claimed they are not into banking, online business, investment company or a multi level marketing (MLM) program. The scheme structure, however, indicates otherwise. For instance, members can have multi-level structures under them and receive bonus from each donation of every participant in their structures.
The company has been able to persuade many Nigerians to buy into its idea. Many Nigerian big online Business coaches and entrepreneurs with vast subscriber base are encouraging their followers to key in to the MMM opportunity. Thus, some Nigerians have invested millions of Naira into this scheme and are enjoying their newfound wealth.
This reporter has seen screenshots of money many claimed to have earned from the scheme. According to one such subscriber, Babajide Abayomi, MMM ensures a level playing ground for all. And with it, people don’t have to be under the yoke of the banking system, which demands that huge interest be paid on loans. He said MMM is real and safe.
However, the question some have asked is: How long would it take to sustain the profits? Many still remember vividly the mad days of the Wonder banks in the early 2000s. Then, many lost their hard-earned money to the likes of Pennywise and such other scammers.
To really grasp the risk involved in investing in this type of scheme, a study of the founders’ backgrounds provides good insights into the viability of their outfit. According to Wikileak, the online information library, МММ was a Russian company that perpetrated one of the world’s largest Ponzi schemes in the 1990s.
By different estimates, between five and 40 million people lost up to $10b. The website said the exact figures of money lost are not known, even to the founders.  The site described Sergie Mavrodi as a Russian criminal and a former deputy of the State Duma in Russia. According to it, he is the founder of the МММ series of pyramid schemes. Wikileak reported that in 2007, Mavrodi was found guilty in a Russian court of defrauding 10,000 investors out of 110m rubles ($4.3m).
Wikileak reported: “In January 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, asking investors to buy so-called Mavro currency units. He frankly described it as a pyramid, adding, “It is a Unclad scheme, nothing more … People interact with each other and give each other money. For no reason!” Mavrodi said his goal for launching MMM-2011 is to destroy the current financial system, which he considers unfair, and form something new to take its place.
“In 2011 he launched a similar scheme in India, called MMM India, again stating clearly that the vehicle is a pyramid. He has also launched MMM in China. He was reported to be trying to expand his operations into Western Europe, Canada, and Latin America.
“In 2015, MMM began operating in South Africa with the same business model as MMM-2011, claiming a “30 percent per month” returns through a “social financial network.”
“The group was identified as a possible pyramid scheme by the National Consumer Commission and accounts of clients were later frozen by Capitec Bank.”
In January 2016, the Chinese government banned MMM on the ground that it is a pyramid scheme, (Ponzi scheme), and not registered in the country. Earlier this year, the scheme crashed in South Africa. MMM Global only gave South Africans the bad news with a post on its website saying: “We regret to inform you that we have to close down the Republic of Bitcoin.
It was an experiment, and, unfortunately, it failed. We turned out not to be able to pay 100 percent per month.” Also recently, the scheme collapsed in Zimbabwe. One of the victims, Mrs. Rosemary Mawonde was quoted by Breaking Times, saying: “We never thought the scheme would end this way, as we believed that by using EcoCash to do the transactions, things were in order.
I am surprised that EcoCash is also distancing itself from the scheme and it is clear that I will never recover the $300 that I invested.” What then is a Ponzi scheme? The scheme (also a Ponzi game or a Ponzi) is an investment operation, where the operator, an individual or organisation pays returns to its investors from new capital paid to the operators by new investors, rather than from profit earned through legitimate investments.
Operators of Ponzi schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. Initially, the promoter would pay out high returns to attract more investors, and to lure current investors into putting in additional money. Other investors would begin to participate, leading to a cascade effect. The “return” to the initial investors is paid out of the investments of new entrants, and not out of profits.
Often, the high returns encourage investors to leave their money in the scheme, with the result that the promoter does not have to pay out very much to investors; he simply has to send them statements showing how much they have earned. This maintains a semblance that the scheme is an investment with high returns.
The Securities and Exchange Commission has warned the public about the activities of the scheme on August 30 of this year. According to its website, SEC said: “The attention of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria (SEC) has been drawn to the activities of an online investment scheme, tagged ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.). The platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network” with a monthly investment return of 30 percent.
“The Commission hereby notifies the investing public that the operation of this investment scheme has no tangible business model, hence it’s a Ponzi Scheme, where returns are paid from other people’s invested sum. Also, the Commission does not register its operation.
“The general public is hereby advised to distance itself from this online scheme. Please note that anyone that subscribe to this illegal activity does so at his/her own risk.”
Managing Partner, Two-Edge Partners Global Limited, Olajide Alex-Oni said such scheme is usually targeted at the extremely poor, greedy and desperate people of the society.
He said: “The get rich quick scheme usually comes out looking so attractive to the populace, but like what is, it is robbing Peter to pay Paul!
“When a company encourages existing investors to invite other potential investors by rewarding them with money from these new comers, then what do you call that? Such a model is not sustainable and is a highly risky investment, because once the flow of investors and their funds stop flowing into the scheme, the investors will most definitely suffer unimaginable losses.”
Speaking on MMM operations, he said a number of countries around the world have banned this scheme and Nigeria should equally do the same. He said since SEC has warned Nigerians on the activity of this group, it is, therefore, illegal to invest in them, because their model is a typical pyramid scheme.
He explained that the scheme was not licensed to operate in Nigeria, noting that its operations are online based, which can crash or get closed down unannounced. He said it’s designed to attract huge traffic and promises unconventional high returns on investment.
Speaking further, Alex-Oni warned: “People have to be careful of such schemes, because they claim to be foreign investor driven with amazing success stories, thus the attraction for the ignorant. The ignorant in this case are usually aware of the risk involved, but the greed in them let them take such risk with the hope to exit before the scheme crashes.
“It is also quite sad that in some extreme cases, some investors actually commit their entire life savings into these kinds of ponzi schemes. People should learn to get creative and innovative through hard work and smart thinking and start creating values and ideas that money will chase. That way, you may start small, but you will think big to grow big the proper way. A warning is enough for the wise.”

Trump’s victory: I’ll tear my green card on January 20, says Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has given an indication that he will tear up his Green Card on January 20, 2017, the day Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th President of the US.
Last week, Soyinka had, in annoyance with the possible victory of the Republican candidate, threatened to destroy the card.
In an interview with The INTERVIEW, the world-acclaimed writer and human rights activist expressed resentment at Trump’s emergence, saying it spelt trouble for humanity.
Asked if he still intended to thrash the card, he said, “Come January 20, 2017; watch my WOLEXIT!”
By WOLEXIT, he seemed to be referring to his final ‘exit’ from the US, playing on Brexit, the expression referring to Britain’s historical exit from the European Union.
Although he said he was not too surprised that Trump won, he noted that his victory had brought an already teetering world closer to the precipice.
He said, “The possibility (of Trump’s victory) was looming nearer and nearer, getting scarier and scarier.
“As the election day approached, the specter became near palpable. I refused to switch on the television this morning until I had stiffened myself with a strong espresso. I felt disaster in my marrow.
“Trump’s wall is already under construction. Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only across the mental landscape of America but across the global landscape. “I am glad you referred to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – that was one anniversary in reversal!”

Hillary Clinton wins Dixville Notch midnight vote

Hillary Clinton 4, Donald Trump 2, Gary Johnson 1 -- and a single write-in surprise: Mitt Romney.
With eight residents voting and five times as many reporters watching, Dixville Notch has spoken.
On a frigid night in the largely forgotten region about halfway between the Maine and Canadian borders, the small northern New Hampshire town came alive for several minutes of kitschy democratic conflict. This latest round of wee hours voting extends a tradition that traces back more than a half-century.
With the results in from Dixville Notch this long-awaited Election Day is officially underway, and sure as the Earth turns on its axis, the end of the 2016 presidential contest seems impossibly closer.
The Granite State's tight Senate race will enter Election Day deadlocked, with Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan and incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte each Dixville notching 4 votes.
Tuesday night's result will hearten superstitious Clinton supporters. The town's small collection of dedicated voters have correctly picked the eventual winner in three of the last four contests. In 2000 and 2004 it broke for George W. Bush and in 2008 it delivered a victory for Barack Obama.
Its more recent results have been less predictive. Romney and Obama split 10 votes in 2012, and John Kasich edged out Trump in this year's GOP primary kick-off.
Nearby Millsfield, which also voted at midnight, delivered a big win for Trump, who scored 16 votes to Clinton's four. One voter wrote-in Bernie Sanders, the New Hampshire Democratic primary winner. Meanwhile, Clinton rallied to a narrow victory in Hart's Location, outscoring Trump by a 17-14 margin, with Johnson gaining another three votes and two more voters volunteering Sanders.
With overnight in-person voting completed, Trump carries a seven-vote lead over Clinton, 32-25.
Millsfield in 2016 is looking to horn in on what has been a calling card for Dixville Notch since 1960, when John F. Kennedy shutout Richard Nixon, 9 votes to nil. Hart's Location, too, has a tradition here, one that traces back to 1948, when voting began at dawn, and then a move to midnight in 1952. But they quit in 1964, leaving Dixville Notch as the leading hours-after-primetime player.
Wayne Urso, Millsfield's ambitious election official, is hoping to displace Dixville Notch. He spent the morning talking trash about his very-early voting rivals.
"We actually have a population here," Urso told CNN. "They may be registered to vote there (in Dixville Notch), but if you ask them where they live, you'll find that nobody actually lives there."
The Dixville Notch voting takes place in the storied Ballot Room of the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, which has been closed to tourists for five years as new owners work to revamp the once bustling ski stop. Millsfield's decision to take on the embattled establishment was made, he said, during a post-primary skull session.
"We had a meeting of all the voters -- because all the voters can probably fit in my living room," Urso said. Asked if they wanted to continue midnight voting in the general election, "Everyone said, 'Yeah.' "
But why this year -- why call attention to the town during this especially divisive season?
"We don't have that problem in Millsfield," Urso said of his isolated provincial town. "We almost never talk about politics amongst ourselves. Whether it's divisive across the country ... it doesn't pertain to us."
An American institution, indeed.

EXCLUSIVE: Tinubu withdraws financial support for APC

A senior chieftain of the party who spoke under the condition of anonymity, confided in NAIJ.com that all is not well within the party because of Tinubu’s withdrawal of financial support to the party headquarters.
“Things have gone from bad to worse,” the party chieftain told NAIJ.com on phone, “Ever since the refusal of President Buhari to fund the party activities, Asiwaju has been the sole financier of the party. “But he has withdrawn his support due to the way he was humiliated by the party chairman in the Ondo primary.” Asked to comment on the rumours that there are plans by anti-Oyegun elements in the APC to remove him and include his name in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ambassadorial nomination list, the party chieftain said it is true.
His words: “I can confirm that the report is true. The truth is even members of the APC NEC have lost confidence in Oyegun. “Why do you think they have not come out to pass a vote of no confidence on him, which is the norm in politics when a leader is under duress.
“Majority of the NEC members are tired of Oyegun’s antics and they are all pre-occupied with positioning themselves for government appointments than staying put in party politics.”
Source reached out to another chieftain of the party who corroborated the story. He pleaded for his identity not to be revealed because he was not authorized to speak on such matters. He said: “Baba (President Buhari) has not sent a kobo to the party since he came into office. When we went to Aso Villa to complain, he asked the party chairman how the monies for the forms sold to party aspirants was expended.  “The party chairman could not give a reasonable explanation, so baba asked us to go and look for ways to make money for the party. “Tinubu has been the one funding us since then because we could not even approach the governors knowing their situation.”

Iyanya admits He would have been Married by 30 if Not for His Music Career

Iyanya talked about his love life with TheNETng, and admitted he would be married now if not for his career.
“I’ll be honest, It’s not very easy. If I had my way, I would have been married a long time ago, by now people will be seeing my kids. It’s not very easy trying to get this music right and then adding marriage to it. The truth is even though people think I have that bad boy reputation, I respect marriage a lot, I don’t believe I should get married and get out of it, so I’m not trying to rush into something I’ll rush out of.”
When asked what he’s looking for in his special woman, he said –
“It’s hard bro. If you say you want a girl from the church, you’ll carry devil, if you say you want a dancer, you’ll carry trouble.
I’m just trying to be patient and take my time and it’s even harder now that I’m famous because it’s really hard to find someone that truly cares for you when you are famous. I think this is one of the things I regret, I should have married someone way back when my mum was still alive.
Back then my mum was always on my neck to settle down and at the time I always wondered why but now I see it. I’m not giving up though, I just want to make sure I get this music right”
On Being 30 and Single
I’m 30 and I’ve not seen in the Bible or any church that’ll say I can’t come to church because I’m 30 and not married [laughs].”

Niger Delta leaders meets Buhari with a 16 points request

President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the 16-ponit requests presented by leaders from the Niger Delta region. The president met with the leaders from the region at the state house on Tuesday, November 1 to discuss the issue of militancy and security in the Niger Delta region. In a statement by Garba Shehu who is the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, President Buhari noted that the unity and progress of the country was important as peace, security, investment and prosperity are linked together, adding that “if we give peace a chance, investors will come here to invest.
Buhari noted that things were difficult due to the collapse of oil prices, inability of 27 of the 36 states of the Federation to pay salaries and absence of savings to fall back on. The president welcomed the 16-point requests presented by the Niger Delta leaders led by Chief Edwin Clark and added that he was also expecting reports from officials he had instructed to review the implementation of the Amnesty program to determine where government fell short so that amends can be made.
He also said that service chiefs were putting together their own assessment of the militancy situation, saying “when I have these reports, including this one (just presented), we will revisit the situation (in the region) to ensure that we succeed this time.” He urged the leaders from the region to do more in term of ensuring peace. “We are determined to make life comfortable and affordable to all Nigerians. If anybody has a country to go to, let him go, we will stay here and salvage our country.” He said: “Please Your Excellencies, Your Majesties, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen; we all have our individual constituencies. Let us try to pacify our constituencies. Let us first recover our country, secure the country and let us invite people who will invest. Let us create jobs for our people and let us be accountable to our people where we are sitting on treasuries, whether it is local government, state or the center. We should ensure that we rebuild this country. Nobody wants to fail. So, the only way out is, if people understand and believe that we are doing our best at all levels, then we will have some peace. But it they have reason to doubt our performance and sincerity, then we will have problem”.
Some of the requests made by the Clark-led team include the completion of major road projects in the region, the take-off of the maritime university, the full activation of ports in Niger Delta and other water ways, the relocation of international oil companies to the region, the issuance of oil blocks to the states and other stakeholders as well as the strengthening of the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. They also spoke about the issue of fiscal federalism.
The Niger Delta leaders declared total support for the administration of President Buhari and expressed total commitment to the unity, peace and stability of the country, At the meeting were the vice president, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal. Representatives of military chief as well as some ministers were also at the meeting.

OMG !!! Human Rights Watch’s Report Reveals Saddening Cases of Rape & Sexual Exploitation by Government Officials in IDP Camps | President Buhari Calls for Action

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for action on a report by Human Rights Watch that accused of raping and sexually assaulting women and children in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the North East.
“Government officials and other authorities in Nigeria have raped and sexually exploited women and girls displaced by the conflict with Boko Haram. The government is not doing enough to protect displaced women and girls and ensure that they have access to basic rights and services or to sanction the abusers, who include camp leaders, vigilante groups, policemen, and soldiers,” the group had said in a statement on Monday.
The group said that it documented 43 cases of sexual abuse, including rape and exploitation, of 43 women and girls living in seven internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
“Four of the victims told Human Rights Watch that they were drugged and raped, while 37 were coerced into sex through false marriage promises and material and financial assistance. Many of those coerced into sex said they were abandoned if they became pregnant. They and their children have suffered discrimination, abuse, and stigmatization from other camp residents. Eight of the victims said they were previously abducted by Boko Haram fighters and forced into marriage before they escaped to Maiduguri,” the group added.
The report continued:
A situational assessment of IDPs in the northeast in July 2016 by NOI Polls, a Nigerian research organization, reported that 66 percent of 400 displaced people in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states said that camp officials sexually abuse the displaced women and girls.
Women and girls abused by members of the security forces and vigilante groups – civilian self-defense groups working with government forces in their fight against Boko Haram – told Human Rights Watch they feel powerless and fear retaliation if they report the abuse.
A 17-year-old girl said that just over a year after she fled the frequent Boko Haram attacks in Dikwa, a town 56 miles west of Maiduguri, a policeman approached her for “friendship” in the camp, and then he raped her.
“One day he demanded to have sex with me,” she said. “I refused but he forced me. It happened just that one time, but soon I realized I was pregnant. When I informed him about my condition, he threatened to shoot and kill me if I told anyone else. So I was too afraid to report him.”
President Buhari, in a statement signed by his Media and Publicity aide, Garba Shehu, said that he is worried and shocked by the report. The statement read:
President Muhammadu Buhari is worried and shocked by the recently released Human Rights Watch (HRW) report which alleges sexual abuse and exploitation of women and girls in camps for those displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The welfare of these most vulnerable of Nigerian citizens has been a priority of his government. Nigerians and the international community can rest assured that the allegations raised in the HRW are not being taken lightly. President Buhari has instructed the Inspector General of Police and the state governors of the affected states to immediately commence investigations into the issue. Their findings will determine the next course of action for the government and define an appropriate response. While the Nigerian military continues to work hard so that these unfortunate victims of Boko Haram terrorism can soon return safely to their homes, the government will do its best to ensure their protection and welfare in the temporary IDP camps.
Here are some cases highlighted in the report:
Rape
A 16-year-old girl who fled a brutal Boko Haram attack on Baga, near the shores of Lake Chad, northern Borno in January 2015, said she was drugged and raped in May 2015 by a vigilante group member in charge of distributing aid in the camp:
He knew my parents were dead, because he is also from Baga. He would bring me food items like rice and spaghetti so I believed he really wanted to marry me. But he was also asking me for sex. I always told him I was too small [young]. The day he raped me, he offered me a drink in a cup. As soon as I drank it, I slept off. It was in his camp room.
I knew something was wrong when I woke up. I was in pain, and blood was coming out of my private part. I felt weak and could not walk well. I did not tell anyone because I was afraid. When my menstrual period did not come, I knew I was pregnant and just wanted to die to join my dead mother. I was too ashamed to even go to the clinic for pregnancy care. I am so young! The man ran away from the camp when he heard I delivered a baby six months ago. I just feel sorry for the baby because I have no food or love to give him. I think he might die.
An 18-year-old girl from Kukawa, a Borno town 112 miles from Maiduguri, the state capital, said that a member of Civilian Joint Task Force – a self-defense vigilante group working with government forces in their fight against Boko Haram – initially gave her privileges, including passes that allowed her to leave the camp, but then raped her:
The man started with preaching, telling me to be a good Muslim girl and not to join bad groups in the camp. He then sent his mother to propose to me, which convinced me that he was serious. He allowed me to go outside the camp when necessary. When he asked me to visit his newly allocated room in the camp, I didn’t see any reason not to go because I felt safe with him. He gave me a bottle of Zobo [locally brewed non-alcoholic drink] and I immediately felt dizzy and slept off. I don’t know what happened thereafter but when I woke up he was gone and I was in pain and felt wet between my legs. For three days I could not walk properly.
Some weeks later I fell very ill, and was told at the hospital that I was pregnant. Then everyone turned away from me: [He] refused to help me, and my step-mother who I lived with in camp pushed me out, saying I was a disgrace. I reported [him] to the police in camp several times but they have not done anything to him because they work together. Whenever I see him, I wish something terrible will happen to him. It is because of him that I have lost everything. I don’t even think the baby will last because she is always crying and I can’t cope. I pray that God will forgive me for neglecting the baby but I am helpless.
Sexual Exploitation
A 30-year-old woman from Walassa, near Bama, about 43 miles west of Maiduguri, said that she fled into a nearby wooded area after Boko Haram fighters killed her husband and abducted her daughters, ages 12 and 9. She stayed there for three months, hoping to find a way to rescue her daughters, until Nigerian government soldiers arrived in the area and the fighters escaped with their captives:
A few weeks after soldiers transported us to the camp, near Maiduguri, one of the soldiers guarding us approached me for marriage. He used to bring food and clothes for me and my remaining four children, so I allowed him to have sex with me. He is a Hausa man from Gwoza. That is all I know about him. Two months later he just stopped coming. Then I realized I was pregnant. I feel so angry with him for deceiving me. When he was pretending to woo me he used to provide for me, but as soon as I agreed and we began having sex, his gifts began to reduce until he abandoned me. Now my situation is worse as the pregnancy makes me sick, and I have no one to help me care for my children.
A woman from Bama living at the same camp said:
The soldier showed his interest by bringing me food and clothes. He used to wear the green army uniform and carried a gun. I accepted him because I needed help to take care of me and my four children. Feeding in the camp is only once a day so you have to accept any help that comes. We started having sex in my camp tent – my sister who was sharing it with me left – or at night in the open field where soldiers stay in the camp. Five months later when I realized I was pregnant and told him, he stopped coming. I have not seen him since then. I feel so ashamed because my neighbors talk and stare at me. I cry whenever I think about him. I delivered the baby two months ago but he is also suffering – I eat once a day so [am] not producing enough milk to breast feed him well. Things are so bad in the camp, there is not enough water or food.
An 18-year old girl from Baga said when she met a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force in the camp, she felt she could trust him because he is also from Baga:
He took me from the camp to a house on Baga Road so we could meet freely. I stayed with him in that house for about one month. Then I fell ill, and went to a clinic. The people at the clinic asked for the person I was living with, and invited him. That was when they told him I was pregnant, and he accepted the pregnancy. But immediately [when] we came out of the clinic he took me to a man to abort the pregnancy. I refused and he said if I would not abort we should separate. Then I moved to the camp. I gave birth almost a year ago but the man has refused to take responsibility. Some months ago he followed the military to catch Boko Haram far from Maiduguri. Even when he visits his two wives in the camp he never asks for me and my baby. I go outside the camp to beg so that we can survive.
A 25-year-old woman at from Dikwa said that when she fled Boko Haram’s attack on the town, she lived with her brother in a rented apartment in Maiduguri. When he was no longer able to feed her and her three children, he took her to the camp where he handed her over to camp elders. One of these elders, a local government employee – who are often financially better off than most displaced people because they receive salaries – proposed marriage and regularly brought her food and money. But the marriage did not materialize, and he began to shun her when she became pregnant. He continued to ignore her when she delivered twins and asked him for money to pay for her midwife. The woman said:
If I have a gun, I will shoot him. It is because of him that people call me and my babies names. I am so ashamed that I cannot participate in camp activities and keep to myself because of the jeers.
A 17-year-old girl said that a young man she knew took her home to his grandmother when she arrived Maiduguri from Dikwa in mid-2014:
He told me he wanted to marry me, and his grandmother referred to me as her grandson’s wife. I lived with them, cooking and cleaning the house, until a month later when he disappeared for weeks. The grandmother asked me to leave, promising to come to the wedding… It was a lie. I did not know it but I was already pregnant. Maybe she already saw the pregnancy signs and I was too young to understand. I heard the grandson fled the town because he heard I have given birth. Now I have been left alone to fend for the baby. I don’t know if any other member of my family survived the Boko Haram attack on Dikwa.
Restricted Movement
A 32-year-old woman from the Damasak said:
Life is terrible here in this camp. For the past three days we have not eaten because there is no firewood to cook the food. To make it worse, they will not even allow us to go out to fend for ourselves. Most times you have to beg the camp officials to intervene with the guards before they will give you the pass to go out. Why will you refuse if any of those people ask you for marriage? You have to survive.
Another camp resident, a 47-year-old mother of eight from Abadam, a northern Borno town, said:
We used to get food at least twice a day when I first arrived at the camp in 2014. But now, sometimes we get nothing at all. We can’t even buy food ourselves because they will not let us go out. My relatives in the town have to plead with camp officials for hours before the officials will agree to let them give us some money or foodstuff from the little they have.
A 20-year-old widowed mother of one at a camp for displaced people said:
I have been refusing marriage proposals from the men in camp because I see how they are deceiving others. I am just not sure how long I can remain in this situation. The last time I ate was four days ago when the one cup of maize I was given finished. I am suffering because I have no husband or anyone else to assist me.
A 16-year-old single mother of one in the same camp said:
Life is difficult in the camp, hardly enough to eat. There is food but whoever gets it, gets it. We are not allowed to go out to find work or get extra food. Sometimes I go to the kitchen to scrape pots to get something to eat. They distribute tickets, some get tickets and some don’t get. If you don’t get a ticket you get no food. The IDP elders distribute the tickets, so they distribute amongst themselves, they make sure their families get first. Usually distribution of tickets take place at odd times such as at midnight.
If you are not married, you hardly get anything that comes in. Women who have husbands insult us: “If you want to eat in [this camp], you should get married in [the camp] so husbands can get food for you.”

Woman gets Her 20 Boyfriends to give Her 20 iPhone 7s and Sells them All to Buy a House

A Chinese woman got 20 boyfriends to buy her one iPhone 7 each – which was just released on September 16 this year, and sold them all off to buy a house. The story seems out of this world, but BBC News has confirmed it’s true.
The story started going viral after someone named Proud Qiaoba wrote about her colleague with the code name Xiaoli on a popular blogging site.
Xiaoli, a woman from the city of Shenzhen in southern China, asked each of her 20 current boyfriends to buy her a newly launched iPhone 7. She then sold all of the phones to a mobile phone recycling site called Hui Shou Bao for 120,000 Chinese yuan (about £14,500), and used the money to put down a deposit on a house in the countryside.
Proud Qiaoba wrote in the blog post that when Xiaoli showed her new house to their group of friends, they were all very surprised when she revealed how she had managed to obtain the money for the deposit.
“Everyone in the office is talking about this now,” wrote Proud Qiaoba, “Who knows what her boyfriends think now this news has become public.”
Proud Qiaoba added that Xiaoli “is not from a wealthy family. Her mum is a housewife and her dad is a migrant worker, and she is the oldest daughter. Her parents are getting old and she might be under a lot pressure hoping to buy them a house… But it’s still unbelievable that she could use this method!”
A hashtag which translates as ’20 mobiles for a house’ quickly began to circulate on Weibo, and became the country’s top trend. It has now been used in excess of 13 million times.
Many people have differing opinions, however most even wonder if the story is true.
Others were suspicious and wondered if the whole story was an elaborate product placement for Hui Shou Bao, the mobile phone recycling business.
BBC Trending approached Hui Shou Bao and a company spokesperson confirmed that they had indeed purchased 20 iPhones from a female client at the beginning of October and paid 6,000 Chinese yuan (about £725) for each one.
We put in a request to interview Xiaoli through the company. They responded to our email saying that they had asked their client if she would like to speak to us, but she had declined.

Police Arrests Man and His Accomplice for Turning 23-year-old Job Seeker into a Commercial Sex Worker

Victor Obano, a hotelier in Lagos and his suspected accomplice, Grace Edet, a commercial sex worker, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly turning a 23-year-old female job seeker into a commercial sex worker in the Ijegun area of the state.
According to PUNCH, Obano, who owns Tisa Hotel, reportedly brought the victim from Akwa Ibom and promised her employment in Lagos. He allegedly turned the victim into a commercial sex worker in the hotel, using Edet as her supervisor.
On October 5, the victim, who is a mother of two, called her elder sister saying she was tired of being a commercial sex worker.
Her sister reportedly informed the police at the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, leading to Obano’s arrest.
Speaking to PUNCH, Obano said:
I am the manager of Tisa Hotel in the Ijegun waterside. I am not a human trafficker. It was only this lady that I brought from the village. I met with her father and he explained her predicament. She is 23 years old. She has two kids and she was living a miserable life. So, I decided to get a job for her.
The police arrested me because I seized her phones. They said I did not want her to contact her family members, but I collected her phone because I did not want her to have an affair with several men.
It was her elder sister who reported the matter to the police. The victim is with her brother presently. The arrangement was that I would be paying her and she would also hustle in the hotel and send the money to take care of her father.
The police should let this matter be settled amicably. It is a family issue.
Edet told PUNCH that Obano had contracted her to train the victim in commercial sex.
“I have worked in the hotel for some years. I am a commercial sex worker. When the manager came back from Akwa Ibom earlier in the year, he returned with the lady. He handed her over to me, saying I should teach her some tricks of the trade.
I did not know the arrangement between them. When I asked the lady why she was brought, she replied that she was asked to hustle at the hotel. So, I do not have any fault in the matter,” Edet said.

According to a police source, Obano has more girls he uses as commercial sex workers in his hotel.
