Plateau killings: US demands immediate prosecution of killers
The United States government has called for the prosecution of those arrested over Plateau massacre.

The United States government on Monday, July 9, called on the Plateau state government to ensure that suspects arrested for killing over 200 persons in some local government areas of the state are prosecuted.
The Plateau state commissioner for information and communication, Yakubu Dati, made this known in a short statement sent via Whatsapp. Dati said the US government through the deputy chief of Mission, US Embassy in Nigeria, David Young, made the demand during a courtesy call on Governor Simon Lalong in the Government House, Jos.
The statement reads: “The deputy chief of Mission, US Embassy in Nigeria also called for punishment for those arrested in connection with the killings and insisted that they must be made to face the music. He said the US Embassy valued her partnership with the Plateau State Government.
“Earlier, Young had commended Lalong for nipping in the bud the unfortunate destruction of lives and property which minimised the casualty during the crises that rocked some parts of Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South Local Government Areas.”
Governor Lalong, who received Young at the Government House promised that the state government would “ensure that perpetrators of this mayhem are brought to book according to the law.”
The chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, made the call on Monday, July 9, when he led members of the committee on a courtesy visit to the police command in Jos.
